Some Truly Legendary Talent Will Be Performing At Aretha Franklin's Funeral Next Week

By Dennis Matthew Livesey

An all-star line up will be gathering at the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit next week to pay more than a little respect to legendary singer Aretha Franklin.

Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Faith Hill and Chaka Khan are just a few of the nineteen artists who will be performing at Franklin's funeral, which will be held on August 31 in Detroit. Franklin, 76, died last week due to advanced pancreatic cancer.

Among the other artist set to perform are Jennifer Holliday,  Ronald Isley,  Fantasia, Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Clark Sisters, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard,  Bishop Marvin Sapp, The Williams Brothers, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Audrey DuBois, Alice McAllister Tillman,  the Aretha Franklin Orchestra, the Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir, and Aretha's son Edward Franklin .

Franklin began her career as a gospel singer in her father's baptist church and later achieved commercial success in 1966 with songs like "Respect", "Chain of Fools", "Think",  and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman."

She was the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and during her career won 18 Grammys and had 88 Billboard chart hits.

A tribute concert for Franklin is being planned by music producer Clive Davis and is set to be held in Madison Square Garden in November.
