Kevin Smith has made significant progress and dropped a lot of weight since his heart attack back in February.
The Clerks and Chasing Amy writer and director admitted that the "massive heart attack" almost killed him:
The doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka ‘the Widow-Maker’). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!
Since then, Smith has adopted a vegan diet and started using Weight Watchers. He has dropped weight and is coming close to beating the original goal weight his doctors gave him after his heart attack.
He said the health scare was one of the best things to ever happen to him:
Honestly the heart attack was the best thing that ever happened to me.
Smith reflected on his inspiring weight loss in a recent social media post — and did so in the most iconic way possible.
He recreated the infamous photo of him in jorts and showed the two snaps side-by-side:
Wide World of Jorts, Then and Now. Years ago, a paparazzo snapped the infamous shot on the left of me wearing my giant jorts at my all-time heaviest. The photo on the right was taken at the same gas station today.
Smith gave a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who helped him lose weight and get to where he is now:
I’m very near the goal weight I was told to shoot for after the heart attack, so big thanks go out to @weightwatchers, #pennjillette, @raycronise & @veggiegrill for reshaping my district, so to speak!
Penn Jillette is a magician, comedian, and actor who underwent his own amazing weight-loss transformation. He lost more than 100 pounds during 2014 and 2015, weighing more than 328 pounds when he started. Jillette wrote a book on the experience, Presto!: How I Made Over 100 Pounds Disappear, which served as an inspiration and motivation to Smith.
Congratulations were certainly in order for the movie mogul, and his fans delivered:
Some wrote about their own weight loss journeys and how Smith inspired them:
Of course, people were curious about the infamous jorts:
Where are they now? The world may never know. Wherever they are, I hope they're happy. Perhaps framed in some sort of Hall of Fame? Stored somewhere in his house, as a memento of how far he has come on his weight loss journey?
Congratulations, Kevin! You look incredible, and serve as a major inspiration to all of us.
