Pete Davidson Under Fire For 2017 Joke About Manchester Bombing By Victim's Mother

By Jonna Ivin-Patton

Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson, who lost his firefighter father in 9/11, is being called out for a joke he told back in 2017 about the Manchester Arena bombing. Davidson, who is now engaged to Ariana Grande but wasn't dating her at the time, allegedly said in a set regarding Grande's growing fame:

...because Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert.

Charlotte Hodgson, whose daughter Olivia Campbell-Hardy died in the bombing, doesn't think the joke is funny.

Hodgson has said:

For anyone to joke about this situation is disgusting and I think he should publicly apologize for it. The families will find it equally as disgusting. We don’t need jokes about it, there have been plenty around, and it’s heartbreaking to hear every day.

Davidson often tells jokes about touchy subjects, including his own father's death on 9/11.

Twitter reactions were varied, with some not surprised.
