Survivors Of The Parkland Shooting Surprised The Tony Awards With A Powerful Performance

By Jonna Ivin-Patton

The audience and viewers of the 2018 Tony Awards were surprised by a moving performance of “Seasons of Love” from the Tony-winning musical Rent by the incredibly talented drama students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The students were introduced on stage by Glee star Matthew Morrison.

The Parkland Florida high school made headlines when a shooter murdered 17 people at the school. Musical theater teacher Melody Herzfeld was being awarded the 2018 Excellence in Theatre Education Award for saving 65 students by hiding and barricading them into a small closet.

The fitting song about love left many in the audience and at home in tears.
