Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin has been plagued with P.R. issues from the word go. The company hasn't exactly painted itself in the most POC-friendly light when it comes to the production of this film, and their most recent statement isn't going to help that image any. In a move that stunned people, Disney casually admitted to putting background actors in brownface to "blend" into the scene.
Because hiring people of color to play people of color isn't a thing, we guess?
