The leader of a North Carolina-based Ku Klux Klan group says he's happy a woman died during the violent protests in Charlottesville last weekend after a car driven by a white supremacist crashed into a crowd of counter-protestors.
Justin Moore, the grand dragon for the Loyal White Knights of the KKK in Pelham, commented:
I’m sorta glad that them people got hit and I’m glad that girl died. They were a bunch of Communists out there protesting against somebody’s freedom of speech, so it doesn’t bother me that they got hurt at all.
If you're not vomiting yet, Chris Barker, the imperial wizard of the group, agreed with Moore:
When a couple of them die, it doesn’t bother us. They’re always attacking and messing with our rallies.
Moore claimed to WBTV that the gathering would have been peaceful if anti-fascist protestors had not shown up and caused conflict. It's notable that anyone calling the Loyal White Knights of the KKK headquarters is greeted with a pre-recorded message praising murderer James Fields Jr. for his role in the death of Heather Heyer:
Nothing makes us more proud at the KKK than we see white patriots such as James Fields Jr, age 20, taking his car and running over nine communist anti-fascist ... James Fields hail victory! It’s men like you that have made the great white race strong and will be strong again.
Many far-right extremist groups such as the KKK have felt emboldened recently by the violent rhetoric and lack of condemnation from President Donald Trump. Following the rally on Saturday, Trump has made two statements, three days apart, which both claimed there was violence "on both sides" of the incident in Charlottesville. Our President suggested a moral equivalence between white supremacists and those who gathered to protest bigotry, hatred, and nazism. According to him, there was blame to be had on both sides when a white supremacist murdered a peaceful protestor, and injured dozens others!
Congressmen on both sides of the aisle have stood up against Trump's comments.
Moore warned that he sees more violence in the near future (violence he approves of and may even take part in):
White people are getting fed up with the double standard set up in America today by the controlled press,” Moore said. “So I think there will be more violence like this in the future to come.
Heyer's mother spoke at a memorial for her daughter on Wednesday, August 16th. To the gathered crowd, she said:
I think the reason that what happened to Heather has struck a chord is because we know that what she did is achievable. Guess what? They killed her to shut her up. Well, guess what? You just magnified her.
