Fortnite is a hugely popular video game, a third person shooter game in which players gather together in a virtual reality in groups of 100. There, they try to kill goofily dressed avatars in a quest to become the last person, or team, standing. There's dancing involved too. You know, like you do.
The game is notoriously addictive. But, according to this report in the Wall Street Journal, some parents are feeling pretty okay about their kids being glued to the screen. Some are even shelling out cash for Fortnite tutors. According to the report, these tutors can cost anywhere from $20-$50.
Ally Hicks, a mother, told the Wall Street Journal:
There’s pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it. You can imagine what that was like for him at school.
Another parent, Euan Robertson, said:
I want them to excel at what they enjoy ... They’re not going to break a leg playing video games.
Of course, there are many other health risks associated with video games.
Some people wondered if this was a harbinger of the apocalypse.
Others were shook.
But some thought the parents were making a good decision.
But most were critical.
At the very least, maybe the kids will develop some good skills for when this all turns into Gilead!
