Terminally Ill Navy Veteran Holds A Yard Sale To Raise Funds For His Own Funeral

By Mike Walsh

Willie Davis, a retired US Navy Officer living in Pennsylvania, was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. When caught in an early stage, squamous cell carcinoma is often curable, but unfortunately, by the time Davis was diagnosed, there was little hope for treatment. With this in mind, Davis, 66, held a yard sale over a few weekends in August so that he could raise enough money to be buried next to his parents in Culpepper, VA.

After learning his disease was terminal, Davis said he felt "desperate." He started selling all his old vinyls and other worldly possessions, and then, one fateful day, a visit from two strangers would alleviate his struggle.
