Comedian Sarah Silverman came to the defense of singer Taylor Swift on her Hulu show America, I Love You. This week, Swift announced her support of two Democrats running for office in the state of Tennessee: Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.
Immediately, she received backlash from Republicans who thought Swift should keep her opinions to herself.
Speaking directly into the camera, Silverman pointed out the hypocrisy of this by saying:
You can’t give Kanye a free ticket to the White House and then tell Taylor to stay in her lane. They are both tax-paying citizens, they can talk about whatever they want.
Twitter was in full agreement.
Of course there were a few shade throwing memes.
And pointing out the Republicans are fine with support from these guys.
America, I Love You is currently in its second season on Hulu.
