Trump Is Still Trying To Take Credit For People Saying Merry Christmas

By Jonna Ivin-Patton

Human beings have a great capacity to do two things at once. For instance, it is possible to celebrate Christmas while still being respectful of other religions. Often when we don't know if the person we are speaking to happens to celebrate Christmas, another religious holiday, or nothing at all, we may offer a simple, "Happy Holidays" in way of a greeting. That certainly doesn't mean when we walk through the door while visiting family and friends on Christmas morning we are not allowed to proclaim, "Merry Christmas!"

Donald Trump seems to think the people of the United States are too simple or stupid to understand this concept. While speaking on National Prayer Day, Trump went out of his way to take credit for the false claim that saying, "Merry Christmas" was in grave danger, and that he alone is responsible for bringing it back. While standing with leaders from Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Hindu faiths Trump showed how complete tone-deaf he is by saying:

One nation under God. So important. And we say it. A lot of people, you know, they don't say it. But you know what? They're starting to say it more, just like we’re starting to say 'Merry Christmas' when that day comes around.  You notice a big difference between now and two or three years ago? It was going in the other direction rapidly. Now it’s straight up.

We can only assume that Trump needed to take credit for something since his approval rating continue to plummet, especially in the light that her was fully aware of the pay-off for Stormy Daniels silence on their affair. One that he denied ever took place. While boasting about his single handedly bringing Christmas back from the edge of doom, Trump was asked about the payoff from his extramarital affair. He refused to answer.
