Porn star Stormy Daniels (whose real name is Stephanie Clifford) recently made headlines again, but it’s not for the reason you may think. Her attorney believes it to be connected to a much bigger picture.
In a statement released on Twitter, Stormy Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, revealed the controversial porn star was arrested in Columbus, Ohio in connection to her work at Sirens Gentlemen’s Club.
According to Avenatti, the arrest came after Daniels was reported “allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non-sexual manner.”
Just rcvd word that my client @StormyDaniels was arrested in Columbus Ohio whole performing the same act she has performed across the nation at nearly a hundred strip clubs. This was a setup & politically motivated. It reeks of desperation. We will fight all bogus charges. #Basta— Michael Avenatti (@MichaelAvenatti) July 12, 2018
Avenatti then went on to describe the arrest as “a setup” and “politically motivated.”
Columbus police may have a different story to tell, however, as it’s alleged that Daniels’ and two additional employees were arrested in connection to a “long-term investigation into allegations of human trafficking, prostitution, and other vice related violations.”

Daniels’ attorney isn’t the only one suspect of the timing and cause. In response to the Columbus PD and Avenatti’s tweets, people have voiced their concerns over the incident.
Yep! They're acting like jackboots to trump. As a former cop myself, this can be a fireable offense. Guess we'll see what happens.— gone country (@casekaem) July 12, 2018
One user questioned the police department on the alleged investigation into prostitution, bringing up a valid - and alarming - point that no additional arrests seem to have been made in connection with the investigation, which has been ongoing since last fall.
Your statement specifically mentions human trafficking and prostitution. Were any arrests for those offenses made as part of this investigation, or just the typical kind of harmless interactions with a performer on stage as is the cultural norm at these events?— mojohama (@mojohama) July 12, 2018
Come on! When was the last time you carried out something like this? It is a chicken-shit thing to do. And, you know it. And, there is no way around it. And, the Court will throw it out. And, you will be admonished! Who is in charge over there? All the good you do! Then, this?— Maura Power (@IammauraP) July 12, 2018
One Twitter user points to a few suspect facts that don’t add up.
You charged these three with misdemeanors yet reference an ongoing investigation. Stormy Daniels lives in Texas yet you guys arrested her as part of an “ongoing investigation” on Wednesday night when she just happens to be here because of “touching.” Wow.— Moeshe Rosenberg (@UncleRabbi) July 12, 2018
The porn star is famously known for alleging that she had an affair with President Donald Trump. In October 2011, The Dirty reported on the scandal, which eventually erupted into claims of bribery and threats.
As Avenatti expected, CNN reports that the misdemeanor charges have been dropped.
