The Hollywood Reporter announced Billy Dee Williams will return as swanky gambler Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. The character of Calrissian appeared in the recent release of Solo: A Star Wars Story but was portrayed by Donald Glover as a younger, cape-wearing version. The last time fans saw Williams as Calrissian was in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
For many it has been far, far too long.
The announcement was a relief for quite a few fans, but for a different reason...
All Our Hearts Stopped When We Saw Billy Dee Williams Trending Well Thank God It's Just For Star Wars— MEL FROM NYC SAID (@JWTheLegend1) July 10, 2018
After a sigh of relief, fans celebrated the return of Calrissian.
If, due to a time travel device or the Force, there’s a plot development that allows Lando to repeat his EMPIRE STRIKES BACK line “There’s still a chance to save Han!” and get us back to that fateful bridge on Starkiller base? Then I’ll kiss JJ on the mouth. I’ll French him even. https://t.co/Tf1B4ppnmG— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) July 10, 2018
And there were plenty of predictions about the outcome.
I think the perfect way to end the movie is to give Lando back the Falcon. See it go off into the sunset with it's original owner.— Matt Jarbo (@mundanematt) July 10, 2018
I think that, like the Legacy lightsaber, the Falcon should be passed down to the younger generation. It'd be a great send off, imo!— White Wolf (@Behemous) July 10, 2018
Give Lando some nostalgic time with the Falcon, maybe even fly it, but in the end it's no longer his (which I think he'd be ok with it)
Could there be some time traveling?
Give me a movie where Donald Glover’s Lando hangs out with Billy Dee Williams’ Lando and don’t explain anything.— Kurtis “The Future Mr.” Tunnski (@KTunnski) July 10, 2018
Time travel? Clone? Who effing cares!
Give me a 2.5 hour movie with them both playing cards. I don’t care, make it happen. https://t.co/qeI36FVCqy
If they don't let Billy Dee Williams bring back Donald Glover's fur Lando cape what the hell are we even doing.— Matthew Jackson (@awalrusdarkly) July 10, 2018
This Twitter user took a darker turn.
People were not down with that.
Lando wont' die. He'll walk into the middle of fire fight, push aside his cape and proudly announce his Rey's father, Poe's father, Finn's father, and Ben's father. Then he'll turn to camera and say “You might want to buckle up, baby.” #EpisodeIX https://t.co/N5bOzJJGDO— Jesse Cox (@JesseCox) July 10, 2018
