A substitute teacher in Canada, whose name has not been released, is now under investigation after mocking a black student's hair on Instagram.
The image shows the student's hair next to a photo of Marlon Wayans’s hair the 1996 parody Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. The picture is captioned, "Who rocked it better?? LOLOLOL."
According to Complex, a Twitter user came across the inappropriate photo, and posted it online. On Saturday, the school district board launched an investigation.
Hi @PeelSchools, please be informed that a grade school teacher with your district is 1) openly mocking her students’ appearance and posting photos of them on social media 2) tagging the location of the school on her Instagram, putting them in danger. pic.twitter.com/Y3JNwz8EIf— Fool of a Took! According to the Twitter user's comment, the substitute teacher went so far as to tag the location of the school on Instagram. The Peel District School Board has said they are investigating the matter.
The Toronto City news reports that the teacher has been banned from speaking with students or teachers since posting the photo.
Speaking to the Toronto City News, Carla Pereira, spokesperson for the PDSB, explained, “We don’t yet know how long the investigation will take or what the outcome will be, as we’re just getting started, but want to assure our community that this matter is being taken very seriously by senior leadership of the Peel board."
