In a sad commentary on the state of wealth inequity in the United States, a man who appeared to be homeless was captured on video slipping through the grates in the streets of New York City.
In 1990 filmmaker Mark Singer made a documentary, Dark Days, about the community of homeless people living underneath the city. They are often referred to derogatorily as "mole people," but in reality we have a crisis in the U.S. of addiction, mental illness, and poverty.
The video shows a man slipping easily through the open grate and disappearing to the ground below.
Some folks thought the man resembled a superhero.
Others wondered if "mole people" were still living beneath the city.
