Turns out the Gen Xer's and Millennials can agree on one thing, the poor state of the country is all the Baby Boomers fault. While we may argue about avocado toast and who gets to claim Smells Like Teen Spirit as their generations anthem, when it comes to the economy and quality of life for future generations, those Boomers have been pretty selfish.
Some of the things the Boomers are being blamed for include massive college loans, ignoring climate change, the creation of low-wage jobs while dismantling unions, and sky-rising housing costs. In other words, they keep voting for Republicans.
Anyone remember this guy?
But the best part is, even Boomers are blaming Boomers. In a new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll, 30% of Boomers say their own generation created policies that made things worse. Also throwing in their opinion, is the Silent Generation, (Who knew there even was a Silent Generation? Maybe they should speak up!) those born between the 1920's - 1940's, agreed Boomers were to blame with 32% saying the Boomers made it worse.
There is some good news to come out of all this finger pointing, Millennials have surpassed Boomers as the largest voting block and they are not happy with the current administration. With 77% registered to vote, the shift of power is in the hand of the younger generation.
Some folks took exception to this finger pointing.
That's terrible! We come from a hard working generation who didn't have expensive cellphones to look at all day instead of finishing school and getting jobs. We weren't lazy and we had kids because we WANTED families and worked hard & did the best we could !— IRON WOMAN!! (@11c6558cc63241f) April 30, 2018
Is ageism now the new form of racism. I find this very sad & very worrying indeed. We have intragenerational inequality in this country the focus by both politicians and the media on the intergenerational IMO has encouraged this - politics of envy. Please Blame policy not people— Ros (@WomenforUBI_Now) April 30, 2018
Millennials blaming others? Imagine that... In other news, the sun rises in the morning.— uscuscgo (@uscuscgo) April 30, 2018
But people came with receipts.
It was also, the generation that the U.S mastered the propaganda abilities it learned during the wars. Most baby boomers thought the government really was to broke to help poor people. While the rest of the world got more healthcare, paid leave, etc we paid for bombs and jets. pic.twitter.com/JDWxKe1PKu— ᴍᴏɴᴏʟɪᴛʜ👁Harry◇Mitchell👁ᴘɪʟɢʀɪᴍ (@MonolithPilgrim) April 30, 2018
I would blame the undoing of fdr's policies one by one,and the reliance on the Petro dollar making our rush towards climate change getting worse good for the u.s.dollar The whole war on drugs setting back poc,Then Bill Clinton deregulating telecommunications and Banking laws etc. pic.twitter.com/xsiGzj4wlS— ᴍᴏɴᴏʟɪᴛʜ👁Harry◇Mitchell👁ᴘɪʟɢʀɪᴍ (@MonolithPilgrim) April 30, 2018
Baby boomers only cared about themselves, which is why this country is in a shithole state. Instead of making housing affordable for future generations, (among other things), B.B. have made it easier for big corporations to pick on the average American.— The Chief (@_ChiefO_o) April 30, 2018
Boomers were manipulated by the government and media, same way people are today. If you look back at the bullshit coming out around the time Boomers and Gen X-ers were coming up, it's easy to see how they were distracted just enough for the government to slip in and make a mess.— Kat DeSade (@LibertineDeSade) April 30, 2018
Meanwhile, relieved not to be battling Millennials for a change, Gen Xers were like —
The question now, what do we do about it? Vote!
