Though spring may seem delayed, tax season waits for no one. Today, many people frantically calculating and logging figures will be doing so for their adult children. As the Wall Street Journal reported, many parents take on this labor of love not even just for their college and young adult offspring but even for "children" nearing... 50. What's more, many of these parents seem happy to do so. “We secretly like it,” said one father. “We would be very sad if a year came along and we were no longer doing them.”
The article prompted many on Twitter to share similar experiences.
My dad at least checks it before I submit it, so I feel this.— Sarah Swan (@SarahtheSwan) April 16, 2018
No you’re not the only one....I gather all my tax docs and send them to my dad. I just can’t bring myself to deal with this tax stuff.— Chris (@chrisd107) April 16, 2018
Others were not so sympathetic.
I realize every situation is different, but there’s got to be better ways to bond with your adult children than continuing to infantalize them so they can’t live as fully functioning independent adults. Potato, potatoe I guess.— Jennifer Longo (@JenLiaLongo) April 17, 2018
Though it may be a somewhat divisive expression of love, sometimes nobody gets stuff done quite like Mom and Dad.
