For all those movies fans pining away in the hopes that Gertie and Elliot's children would carry on the love for E.T., your hopes are about to be dashed.
America's sweetheart, actress Drew Barrymore couldn't have been more clear when she squashed all hopes of an E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial sequel. To top it off, she's known this since she was seven-years-old. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, Barrymore, who is currently starring in Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet, had this to say about the 80's classic film:
In the early ’80s there was not always a lot of talk of sequels because Steven Speilberg made Jaws and E.T. there was a lot of talk within his camp about sequels. But he never wanted to make them.
He felt like what he did was just what it should be. I remember being seven and staying at his house for the weekend — he was a ‘godfather’ to me — and he said ‘No, we’re never going to make a sequel. It’s just as it is.
That was his philosophy and who was I to ever question it.
You can see Barrymore discuss the film below.
As much as it pains us, we have to agree. Jaws III anyone?
It's seems fans agree with Spielberg.
Please no: we don’t need a sequel to every classic, he went home why would he come back— Lincoln witter (@Lincolntwitt3r) March 29, 2018
Although there was this one idea.
An E.T. sequel where E.T. comes back to find Elliott but because his planet is several light years away, Elliott and all humans are extinct and the planet is populated by dogs and the title is P.E.T. <3— Kalon Rae (@kalon_rae) March 29, 2018
Even without a sequel, people still love their Gertie!
