The epidemic of school shootings in America has people everywhere grappling with what the best possible solution might be. Liberals advocate for stricter gun control, while conservatives are calling for increased mental health care and possibly arming teachers within schools. A Pennsylvania super-intendant thinks he's got the right idea, however, and people are pretty stunned by it: he's given each classroom a bucket of rocks to throw at an active shooter should one ever appear in the building.
Well, that's really...something. Twitter users were decidedly underwhelmed.
I am in utter shock that an actual solution to school shootings in America is to keep a bucket of rocks to throw at an active shooter.— Sophia Banks (@sophiaphotos) March 23, 2018
Other users were outraged at the idea.
YES LET'S WEAPONIZE THE KIDS SO THEY CAN DEFINITELY ONLY USE THEM AGAINST AN ARMED INTRUDER. NOPE THEY WONT USE THEM AGAINST EACH OTHER AND ALSO ROCKS AGAINST ADVANCED MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS IS YES VERY GOOD. VERY DAVID/GOLIATH. 😑😑😑😤😤😤🤬🤬 https://t.co/zWXOBWYAuN— Connie _ Just Wants Spring To Get Here (@ConStar24) March 23, 2018
People aren't thinking very highly of Dr. David Helsel, the super-intendant.
This might be an example of an educator who is dumber than that bucket of rocks.— CommonComments (@CommonComments) March 24, 2018
...but maybe the rocks could work?
Well actually guys, if a shooter came in the door with a semi automatic and ~30 kids (because overcrowding) each threw a well aimed rock at him, he would easily be knocked out. We just have to solve the bottleneck at the five gallon bucket.— O. Alan Noble (@TheAlanNoble) March 23, 2018
The Pennsylvanian's plan also inspired some quality GIFs:
This is what the gun control debate has come to. It really creates a sense of nostalgia for the good ole' days...
