Lili Reinhart, star of the CW's Riverdale, took to Instagram to denounce Cosmopolitan Philippines for Photoshopping her body for their February issue. On her Instagram story, Reinhart posted photos of her original photo shoot alongside the Photoshopped images from the magazine.
It's hard not to see where she's coming from. Here are the two photos, one after the other:
Cosmo Philippines did the same to Riverdale costar Camila Mendes, which Reinhart also called out:
Reinhart posted this message to accompany the images:
Camila and I have worked incredibly hard to feel confident and comfortable in the bodies that we have. It's an every day battle, sometimes. And to see our bodies become so distorted in an editing process is a perfect example of the obstacles we have yet to overcome.
Fans were behind Reinhart all the way:
Cosmopolitan Philippines just got called out by Camila Mendez and Lili Reinhart for posting photoshopped versions their bodies despite Cosmo US using their original photos. PH media needs to take better steps to empower women, especially young teens. Respect to these two 💪💪💪 pic.twitter.com/muiPu64BA1— Jero (@_jerocontreras) March 8, 2018
Im a filipino and I dont TOLERATE filipinos bodyshaming others. COSMOPOLITAN PH, you're a disgrace to women.— Gabriel (@gabdocena) March 9, 2018
So shameful for Cosmopolitan Philippines to have photoshopped Lili Reinhart and Cami Mendes’ bodies when they actually promote female empowerment and ‘love your body’ campaign. How hypocrite! Practice what you preach!— Drexerys Targaryen ✨🌹✨ (@MaDrexJanella) March 9, 2018
Happy International Women’s Day!
People were hoping for an apology, but the magazine was like...
What’s even more embarrassing is they deleted the photos and disabled comments on their instagram and didn’t even issue an apology.— Dee 🌷 (@deecoded) March 9, 2018
Reinhart ended her message with a call to action:
So we cannot stop fighting. Out battle has only just begun. We are f***ing powerful, beautiful, and strong...we aren't going to hide behind Photoshop to conform to beauty standards.
That's why I'm calling out @Cosmopolitan_Philippines. It's sad that you felt our bodies needed to be slimmed down. But Camila and I are f***ing beautiful. As is. And you can't 'fix' us.
We couldn't agree more.
