Serena Williams has been dominating women's tennis since she first burst onto the scene in 1995. She has won the most grand slam titles of any active player in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, and she has also ranked first in the Women's Tennis Association in singles on eight different occasions. The superstar has been taking time off after giving birth to a daughter named Alexis Olympia with her husband, Reddit founder, Alexis Ohanian.
Williams had a complicated delivery, telling CNN:
I almost died after giving birth to my daughter, Olympia. Yet I consider myself fortunate. While I had a pretty easy pregnancy, my daughter was born by emergency C-section after her heart rate dropped dramatically during contractions. The surgery went smoothly. Before I knew it, Olympia was in my arms. It was the most amazing feeling I've ever experienced in my life. But what followed just 24 hours after giving birth were six days of uncertainty.
Williams had a pulmonary embolism, meaning a blood clot in her lungs, and a major hematoma in her abdomen. She was left bedridden for six weeks after giving birth. Needless to say, she is lucky to be alive. But at long last, she is making her triumphal return to her sport.
On Tuesday, her husband posted a series of pictures on Twitter showing off the way he decided to celebrate:
Yup. He got four billboards, with pictures of their daughter, spelling out "greatest mother of all time" along the I-10 in Palm Springs.
This reignited many people's hope in true love:
Alexis that’s special. Love it! You are the best husband ever😍— Jamie Wilson (@tvdshoes) February 27, 2018
Others wanted their very own Alexis Ohanian:
Many wished Williams well on her return to tennis:
But mostly, people just thought this was super sweet:
