Mark Hamill and James Gunn are two epic dudes. Hamill is coming off a triumphant return to his iconic portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the critically-acclaimed Star Wars: The Last Jedi this year. Mr. Gunn is science fiction royalty as well, having written and directed both volumes of the massively successful Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, with a third installment on the way. Needless to say, the names of both men have become synonymous with intergalactic adventures and action-packed battles.
Which is why the internet went a little nuts when a fan's tweet to Gunn set this interaction into motion:
I would be happy to do so, both as a good neighbor & an unemployed actor.— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) February 26, 2018
All the best, mh
Twitter nearly ripped a hole in the space-time continuum.
And the *squees* of geeks all over the globe could be heard in space. 🤣🤣🤣🤣— No One (@Bron_Mitchell) February 26, 2018
I don't think you could have made that Tweet more amazing if you tried. Two sci-fi/space opera greats having coffee together. So lucky!— Kyle Griffin (@Saurocron) February 26, 2018
Thanks so much for asking so they're now actually considering this! 🤣💕— HereComesMarkHamill (@herecomeshamill) February 26, 2018
I got just three words for you, my man.— Israel Zepeda (@Avion_Espia) February 26, 2018
Make. It. Happen.
Sincerilly, the whole 🌎.
And though there were some logistics to be discussed...
DM me for my contact info if you're serious.— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) February 26, 2018
(& a good neighbor)
Yes I will although I don’t think your DMs are on for me.— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) February 26, 2018
Fans immediately began speculating on what role Hamill could potentially fill in the new installment.
Others are begging the duo not to let them down.
You can't play around with the emotions of fans. Hopes are high.— JamesRobertBlack (@JamesRobertBla3) February 26, 2018
I hope this happens. I think we all need to put one in the win Column. The start of this year has been a bit dark.— Shane Rolfe (@Ralph1237) February 26, 2018
Fans are excited, but not too excited to forget that Hamill's role, unlike Han Solo, hasn't been set in stone...er...carbonite.
