Icon and neo soul legend Sade will be releasing her first new music in seven years. The track, called “Flower of the Universe,” is for the upcoming adaption of Madeleine L'Engle’s A Wrinkle In Time, directed by Ava DuVernay
DuVernay, who directed Selma and 13th, tweeted how she made a personal request of Sade:
I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled “Flower of the Universe.” And it’s a dream come true. pic.twitter.com/FdXrZ1MFMO— Ava DuVernay (@ava) February 20, 2018
Sade is known for taking long creative hiatuses in between work, so when she returns it tends to cause quite a stir.
Sade releases an album MAYBE every 7-8 years. Ava prodded her out of hibernation.— Truthiest (@tmtweetz) February 20, 2018
What I tell you man she was coming to save us she heard the prayers 🙏🏽— ㅤㅤㅤ (@curlytop_kai) February 20, 2018
And fans weren't sure they could survive the wait until the track is released.
This makes me so happy and excited and breathless. I can't wait to hear it!— Charlotte Jones Voiklis, PhD (@charlottejv) February 20, 2018
Many saw it as an important cultural moment during Black History Month.
And people seemed to take away an important life lesson: "You'll never know if you don't ask."
The power of the ask! I tell my daughter all the time, the worst someone can say is “no” then you find another way. Congrats, beautiful. I can’t wait to take her to see this film.— Ebony Combs (@BrandMeEbony) February 20, 2018
