With over 10 school shootings since the beginning of 2018, Americans are taking real notice of the problem. With the NRA's powerful influence in Congress and a small, but extremely vocal portion of Americans resisting any new gun control legislation, however, significant change is an uphill battle. Though 3 of our nation's 10 deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the last 5 months, conservatives in Congress shoot down any attempt to pass gun control regulations, instead saying the USA's epidemic of mass shootings is a mental health problem, not a gun problem. To try and fix the country's mental health problem, conservatives have diligently passed ZERO bills supporting mental health care, and have active attempted to defund what coverage citizens do have.
It's enough to drive anyone a little batty. Fortunately, Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and Ted, tweeted out his plan to finally create some positive change:
As you might imagine, the post sparked a bit of controversy on Twitter.
Gun control means universal background checks, re-instating automatic and semi automatic guns and bump stocks. You don't need these to hunt, unless your hunting humans. And, we also need to make sure no one mentally ill, who had a domestic violence or assault charge, gets a gun— GreenGrandma #NoDAPL (@desilee49) February 16, 2018
1. Banning guns has worked really well everywhere else 2. Even if you’re not convinced, couldn’t we at least try? It would save the lives of innocent children. How can you just shrug that off?— Paul Walker (@syllabub69) February 16, 2018
Many got behind MacFarlane's plan 100%.
Some have already started following it!

MacFarlane is using his voice to make a difference!
Thank you very much for continuing to use your high profile to thoughtfully and aggressively speak out on the need for gun law reform. It is admirable and in the midst of what may be trolling and pushback, I hope you are getting support.— Trent Miller (@scarfacesanta) February 17, 2018
After gun control is finally taken care of, we can move on to other legislative issues.
Can we also throw out the ones linked to the pharmaceutical lobby?— A (@PeaceLoveAnie) February 16, 2018
It's time we did something.
As law abiding gun owners it is our responsibility (nationwide, not just where these shootings have happened) to help be a part of the solution regarding gun laws....not continuing to seeing the problems with it and sitting idle.— Diana Romano (@HRHLadyDi) February 16, 2018
