Team USA members, Gus Kenworthy and Adam Rippon, are the first openly gay athletes to represent the United States in the Olympics. Posting photos to social media both men send strong messages to Vice President (and US Olympic delegate), Mike Pence.
Gus Kenworthy, world champion and Olympic Silver Medalist skier, posted an Instagram photo with U.S. National Champion figure skater, Rippon that was captioned, "Eat your heart out, Pence"
Rippon, who came out as gay in 2015, reportedly had no interest in meeting the V.P. and publicly criticized his views and voting record with the LGBT community. He took to twitter posting a photo of himself and Kenworthy with the caption, "Representing the USA is one of the greatest honors of my life and being able to do it as my authentic self makes it all so much sweeter."
Tonight I walked in the #OpeningCeremony and got to watch my old friend @Yunaaaa light the Olympic flame. Representing the USA is one of the greatest honors of my life and being able to do it as my authentic self makes it all so much sweeter 🇺🇸🏳️🌈🏆🌎❤️🔥 pic.twitter.com/ZypvWkUBjD— Adam Rippon (@Adaripp) February 9, 2018
Kenworthy then hit up Twitter with another adorable pic adding, "We're here. We're queer. Get used to it."
Twitter has fallen in love with the pair.
Congratulations!! You are awesome. A GREAT representation for not only the United States but for the LGBTQ community!— Steve Brewster (@stevembrew) February 9, 2018
