Back in 2015 Moley Robotics released a video promising that a fully loaded robotic kitchen was coming in 2017. Well the time has come. It's here!
The kitchen comes equipped with two robot arms, an oven, utensils, a shelf for holding food, and a touch screen for the homeowner to order up what they want. And don't worry — after the robot has cooked your mean and cleaned your kitchen, the arms retract so you don't have to see them when not in use.
Lucky homeowners can choose recipes that the robot arms are programmed to cook by mirroring the techniques of an actual chef. We're not entirely sure what happens if you want something new. Maybe Gordon Ramsey can pop by and teach the robot how to whip up his famous Beef Wellington.
Some people love it:
Others weren't totally convinced:
There was a sci fi book with this concept in it, I read it last year. Pretty cool, but the book went a lot farther with the concept. Unbelievable someone could do this, programming it had to have been crazy!— Nanette leblanc (@Pho2oart) February 3, 2018
IMO- there is a big diff between someone who cooks and a chef. A chef uses taste, touch, sight and flavours to create a masterpiece to enjoy. Don’t know if a robot can give us that experience.— Tabitha Martel (@tabitha_martel) February 3, 2018
And still more were downright frightened:
