A ridiculous plan to try and bring down the Black Panther film by posting negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes was tanked by Facebook. The social media company shut down the page called "Down With Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys." The group's moderator had created an event named “Give Black Panther a Rotten Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.” Around 4,000 people signed up before Facebook shut it down.
The moderator must have been wearing a tinfoil hat while spouting conspiracy theories to justify the plan:
Given the massive success of the audience review rigging on the Rotten Tomatoes site for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi,’ and due to the sudden rise in those disgruntled with Disney business practices among other factors especially due to the corporate manipulations which created falsified bad press for the DCEU, I feel that it’s time to strike back at all those under Disney and bring down the house of mouse’s actions for paying off the critics that hurt DC Comics on film and for other parties affected by them.
I’ll be making events like this for ‘Infinity War’ and the Netflix shows etc so we can rally together to truly make a difference…If you want to spread spoilers to Marvel fanboys, use this event as a platform to inform us of targets!
Doesn't look like they will be doing much of anything now.
Some people aren't buying that this beef is really with Disney. They believe it is racially and sexually motivated:
I doubt it's Marvel or DC fans, I think it has more to do with black panther being mostly black actors and Star Wars being also mostly POC and women main characters than any hatred towards super heroes or disney.— Rjr (@RJRainer) February 3, 2018
None of this has lessened enthusiasm for the film:
