Lorde Takes Out Full-Page Ad To Thank New Zealand For Supporting Female Musicians ❤️
4 months ago

On Tuesday, singer/songwriter, and producer, Lorde took out an ad in The New Zealand Herald thanking her country for supporting female musicians. The ad was seemingly in direct response to Recording Academy President Neil Portnow's remarks on why many women were left out of the award show and being the only woman nominated for Album of the Year to not be asked to perform solo.

Lorde's handwritten note thanked the people of New Zealand for their support of female musicians.

The note in part reads:

"I just wanted to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for loving and embracing Melodrama the way you did. My nomination belongs to you. Thank you, also, for believing in female musicians. You set a beautiful precedent!"

Lorde fans fully supported her.

Lorde also made a statement while attending the awards while wearing an excerpt of an essay by writer Jenny Holzer, speaking to “the overthrow of the oppressors”.
