Bernie Sanders Downplays 2020 Bid Rumors—Says His Focus Is On Midterms

Bernie Sanders ran a brilliant but ultimately unsuccessful campaign against Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries. Now, Sanders is reportedly looking at a 2020 run. Last Thursday, Politico reported that Sanders had met with some of his top donors and organizers from the 2016 race to discuss a potential 2020 bid. But when he appeared on Face The Nation on Sunday, Senator Sanders (I-VT), sidestepped a direct question and claimed he wasn't thinking about 2020, but had his sights set on the 2018 congressional races.

Sanders told Face the Nation's Nancy Cordes:

Really right now what our focus is on is 2018. ... Doing everything that we can to see that the Democrats regain control of Senate and House and some governors' chairs as well.
