In news that will come as a shock to pretty much nobody, it turns out pregnancy is hard on the body. It requires your body to stretch itself both literally and figuratively. It can spread muscles to the point of tearing. It means extra work for your heart. If you stop and think about it, it really does show just how much a human body can do. For some people, though, the idea that their body may never be the same again is scary, and stretch marks are one visible sign of a pregnancy (yes, we know you can get them in other ways, too) that some people are proud to wear and others will go to ridiculous lengths to prevent.
Now that Khloe Kardashian is discussing her pregnancy publicly, it makes sense that the subject came up. She tweeted about it:
So far no stretch marks. So I'm happy about that 🤞🏽 the perks of being chubby previously. Lol my tummy knows how to stretch— Khloé (@khloekardashian) January 26, 2018
Her followers quickly split into factions. Some totally felt Khloe's relief at not having stretchies yet, and they shared tips and tricks.
I got mine postpartum when my belly was going down 😩 Only a tiny patch just below my bikini line which I was thankful for!— Little Miss J (@NotSoPlainJane9) January 26, 2018
I didn't get a stretch mark with either of my pregnancies! I swear I owe it to the cocoa butter sticks they sell at Walgreens! They look like the huge lip smackers from our childhood LOL (& coconut oil after showers!)— Ciara Allen (@LadieCiaraAllen) January 26, 2018
I got them the week before I had my son, I was devastated, I thought I was in the clear. Hoping you don’t get them girl 🙏🏼— Al (@allison_sena) January 26, 2018
Sometimes you don’t see them until your belly is “deflated” in a sense lol. I thought i had none, then saw i was wrong 😳— Cassie Contente (@CassieContente) January 26, 2018
Others believe stretch marks are no cause for shame. Maybe more public figures should embrace and talk about them?
Stretch marks are tiger stripes you earn as a mom. I wish celebrities would embrace pregnancy 🤰 and not worry about their body image. Do you want to see what a real body of a mother of four looks like?— A Side of Crunchy (@asideofcrunchy) January 26, 2018
Don’t worry Khlo your about to be a new Mommy that comes with the territory it’s a BEAUTIFUL thing and have faith in yourself that snapback gon be real don’t feel pressure either do it at your own pace there’s beauty in that as well 💯❤️— Veronica Cofre (@veronicacofrevb) January 26, 2018
they're just paint on your canvas to show where you been in life; if you do get them its because of you carrying your child which will be worth remembering even on skin but stuff like bio oil/cocoa butter can help before & after stretch marks— Bad Wolf (@hannahhhhh15) January 26, 2018
Embrace what pregnancy is doing to your body. You have wanted this for so long and we’ve all been behind you 💯 your body is not yours at the moment it’s a home/food/shelter for the little one growing inside of you and that should be reward enough. 🤰🏼💙💖— GINGE (@ClaireLNWilson) January 26, 2018
