For better or worse, Apple has become an inherent part of our culture. Their devices, from the iPhone, to the iPad, to the MacBook, are so ubiquitous, as is their operating system, that it's nearly impossible to avoid their presence. With that presence has come some controversy, which has caused them to be on the receiving end of consumer rage multiple times.
But now, it's a new Apple ad that's drawing people's ire. They call it "What's a Computer?" and it features their new iPad Pro.
In it, a busy tween is shown doing a variety of things throughout their day on their iPad.
Then once back home, a neighbor asks:
What are you doing on your computer?
The kid's response:
"What's a computer?"
Well, turns out, Twitter is none too pleased with the ad.
Like, at all...
It's annoyingly out of touch. Like Apply smugly believes that they're on the cusp of changing the world's lexicon for computer to their product. I feel bad for the girl though, people hate her now and she's just trying to get an acting career going.— Brett Elliott (@brettmandoes) January 24, 2018
Apple ad with a smug kid saying "what's a computer" is arrogant and insults the millions who still use and love their desktop PC as I do. Its not going anywhere. Tablets do not replace desktops. Apple Fail.— JC McLean 🇺🇸 (@JCMcLeanNFL) January 25, 2018
⚡️ “People are furious over Apple's 'What's a computer?' commercial ” by @businessinsider— Rowyn Olson (@rowyn_olson) January 25, 2018
While this video was rather smug and arrogant, I don't believe that hating on the girl in the video is appropriate at all. She did a fairly good job at acting.https://t.co/DS96VL0Wgq
Am I the only person who find the Apple commercial where the girl asks “what’s a computer” arrogant? Even if you’re using apply exclusively, you know what a computer is and what the Lady meant.— Jason Jordan (@jjordan28) January 14, 2018
Others felt that Apple shouldn't be jumping at the chance to bring in the end of the 'computer era'...

“What’s a computer?”
Ya know, just the thing you gotta plug that iPad into to make it work for the first time.
Oh? I wasn't the only 1? Lol it's stupid. A computer is a computer no matter what size and shape it is. Sheesh.— Equuslimits10 🐎🐴🏇 (@Equuslimits10) January 24, 2018
But most were just annoyed...
The "what's a computer" Apple ad popped up on my timeline. I reported it for abusive/harmful content, of course.— Taylor (@TaylorMorgan001) January 24, 2018
This person felt particularly passionately:
to the copywriter of that "What's a computer" Apple ad: I hate you and everything you stand for— Jermaine Kravitz (@AntonioMGray) January 22, 2018
