Last week, a Michigan man named Brandon Griesemer was arrested for making threatening phone calls to CNN's headquarters in Atlanta in which he said he would kill employees there. On Tuesday, CNN, reported that Griesemer made 22 phone calls on January 9 and 10. In some of the calls he also made disparaging remarks about Jews and Black people. This was also not Griesemer's first run-in with the police. Back in September, he was arrested for making threatening phone calls to an Ann Arbor area mosque. The affidavit in the CNN incident was unsealed last Friday.
Inside were some quotes from the threatening phone calls...
Fake news. I'm coming to gun you all down.
I am on my way right now to gun the f****** CNN cast down .... I am coming to kill you.
On Monday, CNN released a statement:
We take any threats to CNN employees or workplaces, around the world, extremely seriously. This one is no exception. We have been in touch with local and federal law enforcement throughout, and have taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of our people.
Some people pointed out the President's complicity, as well as the complicity of his whole administration:
CNN employees faced a threat of mass murder yesterday, and the man arrested said he wanted to kill the “fake news” journalists.— Nathan H. Rubin (@NathanHRubin) January 23, 2018
Trump, this morning, again calls CNN fake news.
It’s not a laughing matter. Our President is inciting domestic terrorists.
This is the work of Trumps constant attacks of Faje News on CNN. The result of which is the threat of harm against CNN employees. Never has a President incited people to want to kill media employees. This is unacceptable . #TrumpResign https://t.co/u70er7EG8h— Robert Dunn (@RobertD85673386) January 23, 2018
Others had fears about what path our country is heading down:
Grasp the importance of this. We are heading down a dangerous path with Trump's attack on the free press. Instead of protecting, our president may cause the future deaths of journalists in this country. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN HERE! #CNN #TuesdayThoughts https://t.co/UVk3KNCHab— Jeremiah Rappel🤔 (@JeremiahRappel) January 23, 2018
And not a word about the death threat to CNN, in which the caller used Trumps famous Fake News quote! He's inciting hate towards our free press!— Emmyjo (@Road_trippn) January 23, 2018
In 2016 Planned Parenthood was shot up by a white man based on GOP lies. In 2017 a pizza parlor was shot up by a white man based on GOP lies. In 2018 a white man threatened to shoot up CNN based on GOP lies. Where does it end? https://t.co/x1c9iPJHlK— (((𝕺𝖍𝕹𝖔𝕾𝖍𝖊𝕿𝖜𝖎𝖙𝖓𝖙))) (@OhNoSheTwitnt) January 23, 2018
And Daily Beast reporter Spencer Ackerman made this important point:
