Twitter Users Share How They're Spending MLK Weekend—And We're Inspired
3 months ago

From inside a cell in Birmingham, Alabama Martin Luther King Jr. wrote "We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny." Dr. King was talking about the "interrelatedness of all communities and states." At a time when the country so often feels divided it's an important message to remember, and one many have taken to heart this MLK day.

"Make it a day on, not a day off," states the MLKDay campaign meant to "honor Dr. King's legacy through volunteer service," and over the weekend Twitter was flooded by the thousands of volunteers sharing inspiring examples how they spent their MLK weekend.

Volunteer efforts spanned across the country and included event like food drives...

Clothing drives...

Relief efforts for hurricane victims

Dialogues...

Parades...

Veteran assistance...

And hundreds of other efforts all around the country to honor the legacy of Dr. King.

And in the spirit and words of her father, Bernice King reminded us what MLK day is all about.
