WeHo or, West Hollywood-Los Angeles to the outsiders, is already an eclectic hodgepodge of assorted humanity and Kevin Short, WeHo Jesus, as he was more affectionately known was their beacon. Sadly on December 13th, 2017 Short passed on at the age of 57. At the moment all that is confirmed from family is that he suffered form a "brief illness" before dying.
His death was first reported on Facebook by neighbor Brian Hamilton.
Short was a bit of a local celebrity, always greeting and posing with neighbors and visitors. He also had brushes with fame having appeared in Lana Del Ray music videos and it is believed the Aerosmith song "Sweet Jesus' was written about him.
Twitter immediately began to share it's condolences and sweet memories.
We all loved Kevin aka Jesus. Such a great guy. Beyond generous and supportive of all the comedians. He was part of The Comedy Store & Los Angeles. He walked almost everywhere, but I always gave him a ride home. I’ll miss him. Our last photo... RiP good friend. pic.twitter.com/EdKZAcSYG4— Steven BRODY Stevens (@BrodyismeFriend) January 4, 2018
Sad to say my friend Kevin Short, aka "LA Jesus" has passed away after a brief illness. He was full of so much kindness and loved the way strangers would hug him and saw him as a symbol of hope and love.— Mindy Robinson (@iheartmindy) January 4, 2018
We always had fun doing LMFAO music videos and events
Miss you already pic.twitter.com/ICwIPfpZIk
Oh man, just heard the bad news about @kevinleelight. When I ran the LA @lamarathon last year, we stopped and chatted a for a few minutes. He was a great guy and will be missed by the community. Fingers crossed that we'll see him again in 3 days. #HollywoodJesus pic.twitter.com/4fiKF28RgS— Matt Knudsen (@mattknudsen) January 4, 2018
There is always hope.
Let's hope some lessons of love and light can be taken on from here. You only have to be kind to make an epic difference.
THAT is what Jesus wold do! THAT is what he did!
Rest in peace friend.
