All good things must come to an end, even if we aren't ready for it. Back in October, AOL announced they'd be pulling the plug on AIM. Sure enough, people still were not prepared.

I “met” my wife on #AIM back in 1999 or 2000.
All this time later, we have a 14-year marriage with two kids. Without AIM, our lives would have been much different.
Thank you, little yellow running dude with no face, for changing my life for the better.
Cryptically updating your AIM profile with song lyrics was the original subtweeting.— Justin Karp (@jskarp) December 15, 2017
Shoutout to the OG social network on the day of its demise.
With AIM officially shutting down, I would like to take a moment of silence for my beloved screenname - luvtoshop315. Years later and I still do luv to shop, but you will be missed screenname. Thank you for the memories.— sami moore (@sparkleshinesam) December 15, 2017
RIP AIM, RIP my midlife crisis screen names DuHast and KornStar69— Michele (@inthefade) December 15, 2017
🕯Today AOL will shut down AIM for good. Farewell "sockerqt972." Yes, I thought that screen name was super hot fire in middle school.— Adamma Izuegbunam👩🏾💻 (@Adommination) December 15, 2017
Wow. I can't believe today is the end of AOL Instant Messenger! Back before texting, this was the app to use and the place to be! So long Buddy List from high school and college! So long away messages! Also can't believe it was around for 20 years. Dang, I'm old! pic.twitter.com/QFIVyYI8gc— Nick Kraynok (@Nick_Weather) December 15, 2017
AOL Instant Messenger dies tomorrow. I remember asking my now-wife for her screen name walking back from Wells Hall freshman year and adding her to my buddy list. Goodbye, best wingman ever.— Kyle Allester Koster (@KyleKoster) December 14, 2017
Today, we are all away from our computers right now. RIP AIM.— Aaron Leavitt (@_amleavitt) December 15, 2017
And as we now lay AIM to rest, just know that you'll all always be online on the buddy list in my heart.— Mike Scheeler (@mikescheeler) December 15, 2017
