Former Vice President Joe Biden stopped by for a chat on the talk show The View to discuss his new memoir Promise Me, Dad. The book chronicles his son Beau's battle with glioblastoma. Things took a personal turn when co-host Meghan McCain brought up her father, Senator John McCain, who is fighting a battle with the same brain cancer as Biden's son.
There’s a lot of things happening, there’s breakthroughs that are occurring now, it could happen tomorrow. So there is hope. And if anyone can make it, your dad — her dad is one of my best friends.
You may remember when you were a little kid, your dad took care of my Beau. Your dad ... became friends with Beau. And Beau talked about your dad’s courage — not about illness — but about his courage.
Her dad goes after me, hammer and tong. We’re like two brothers who were somehow raised by different fathers because of our points of view. But I know — and I mean this sincerely — even when your dad got mad at me and said I should get the hell off the ticket — I know if I picked up the phone tonight and called John McCain and said, ‘John, I’m at 2nd and Vine in Oshkosh and I need your help,’ he’d get on a plane and come.
This was beautiful! I cried right along with them! So lovely to see two civilized people from different parties being human, and GENUINELY caring! I want Joe to run for the Presidency in 2020, I think Meghan would be fine if that happened too!— Tamara (@tamarahayes22) December 13, 2017
There are no words I have to convey my immense gratitude to @JoeBiden and his family - your strength, hope and fortitude are an inspiration to me and so many others daily. Thank you for your kindness today and sharing your story with us @TheView pic.twitter.com/LYmAD5HaTq— Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) December 13, 2017
I lost my 14 yr old son after a 5 yr battle with leukemia. It changed me in every way possible. Joe Biden's reaction to Meghan is all the more generous when you consider that losing a child is a bigger shock than losing an aged parent. Uncle Joe is good people.— Barbara Reid (@reid_bj) December 13, 2017
