Singer John Mayer Was Just Hospitalized For Emergency Surgery

On the morning of Tuesday, December 5, John Mayer was admitted to the hospital. The news elicited concern from Mayer fans around the globe — especially those planning on seeing him at a New Orleans concert scheduled later that day.

After suffering severe abdominal pains, Mayer checked into an emergency room and was soon scheduled for an appendectomy.

Dead & Company, the mash-up band Mayer has been traveling with, issued this statement over Twitter:

Early this morning, Tuesday, December 5th, John Mayer was admitted into the hospital for emergency appendectomy forcing the Dead & Company December 5th concert in New Orleans to be postponed.

Several of Mayer's appearances with Dead & Company may have to be cancelled, which is sure to be heartbreaker both for fans and for Mayer himself.

Mayer recently commented on the process of working with some of his idols:

As much as I’m committed to making it work from the inside. I’m just excited to be there and in that spirit. I’m on a journey of finding out what is essential to the mix and how I can do that – which part of my voice I can add and which part of the original voice needs to be there.

Twitter is wishing Mayer a speedy recovery the only way it knows how — with a healthy dose of snark:

Some messages were more heartfelt than others:

Feel better, John Mayer. We hope to see you back on stage again soon.
