Julianna Margulies Describes Uncomfortable Situations With Harvey Weinstein And Steven Seagal
Updated 7 months ago

Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife and ER fame has added her name and story to the increasingly long list of women and some men who are speaking out about the epidemic of sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape that has festered without accountability in Hollywood for decades.

Appearing on the Just Jenny Show, Margulies shared a terrifying encounter with Steven Seagal after a female casting director set up a meeting between the two, ostensibly to go over an audition scene.

Margulies said:

I lived in Brooklyn, and I said, ‘Oh, I don’t do that. I don’t travel. I don’t have money for a cab.’ And I didn’t. And I said, ‘And I don’t take subways late at night.’ And she says, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll reimburse you. And I’m here, a woman. I got to the hotel at 10:40, and she wasn’t there. And he was. Alone. And he made sure that I saw his gun, which I had never seen a gun in real life. I got out of there unscathed … I don’t know how I got out of that hotel room. I sorta screamed my way out.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the last time a powerful man tried to sexually assault her. Years later Margulies was once again invited to a hotel room under the pretense of discussing her film career. Having survived the experience with Seagal, Margulies wasn't taking any chances. This time she insisted a female assistant join the meeting.

She [the assistant] knocked on the door, and she was standing behind me, and he opened the door in a bathrobe. I could see that there were candles lit in the room, and there was a dinner for two. And I saw him stare at her, daggers. And I caught her in a shrug — like, ‘What could I do?’ And he looked at me, furious, and he took the door and he said, ‘Just wanted to say good audition.’ And he slammed the door. And, of course, I didn’t get the part.

You can hear Margulies tell the Seagal story below.

As expected, people were upset with Seagal:

But people were also upset with the female casting director and assistants:

Some people pointed out young assistants are also under the thumb of a powerful boss:

Lisa Guerrero, who has spoken about her own experience with Seagal, tweeted her support:

People were equally disgusted with Seagal and Weinstein:
