According to the Huffington Post, despite overwhelming evidence in a case in which four women accused former That 70s Show star, Danny Masterson, of rape, the case has stalled. Masterson is a member of the Church of Scientology, and at least three of the women who have accused him were also members and had reported the rape to the Church. The Church of Scientology has a long history of covering up sexual abuse.
In Scientology, any report of illegal goings on to an outside force is considered a 'suppressive act.' The Church is famous for defaming and attacking accusers rather than rebutting accusations. This case was referred to the district attorney in April of this year. One law-enforcement official described the evidence in the case as 'overwhelming,' including audio tapes and emails. The reason why the case has stalled remains a mystery.
Twitter had some thoughts.
Must admit I always assumed something like this was the actual purpose of Scientology— Paul Sorensen (@psorensen) November 3, 2017
😐This is actually the worst news - thought he was such a good dude.— Marcelle Antunes (@marcellehoa) November 2, 2017
Terrible, but not surprising. I worked on a crew for an indie film many years ago, & had to deal with him for a day. Biggest d-bag on earth.— wingo shackleford 🎛 (@wi_ngo) November 3, 2017
Sad but not shocking. Dude always came off like a total creep...— Chuckmaster (@NeedChuckmaster) November 2, 2017
Let's all hope the slowed pace of this case gets resolved soon.
