Stephen Paddock, a retired accountant and amateur poker player, opened fire with an automatic rifle from a hotel room overlooking a country music festival in Las Vegas, killing more than 50 people and wounding another 500. It is the worst mass shooting in modern American history, and it took Paddock's family completely by surprise.
He's never even drawn his gun! It makes no sense. He's never hit anybody. Never!
This poor man. I can’t even imagine what he’s going through.— Laura Ruebel (@laura_ruebel) October 2, 2017

One notable detail that's emerged about the Stephen Paddock's family is the notoriety of his father, Benjamin Hoskins Paddock, who was on the FBI's most-wanted list from June 10, 1969 until May 5, 1977. After being arrested for robbing banks, he escaped prison in 1969 and lived on the run until 1978, when he was re-arrested in Oregon. But Eric doubts that his brother was attempting to emulate their father's criminal tendencies:
He was my brother, and it's like an asteroid fell out of the sky. We're still just completely dumbstruck.
