The day before the Las Vegas shooting, the Gun Violence Archive tweeted harrowing statistics about gun violence in the U.S. in 2017:

The Archive has tallied 11,565 thousand gun deaths in the U.S. — and more than twice as many injuries — since the beginning of 2017. 

It's hard to believe these numbers are accurate, but the Archive shows where the data come from:
