Dubai Is Set To Build A Gigantic Mars Prototype City In The Middle Of The Desert

The United Arab Emirates has announced  a $140 million project to bring the feeling of life on Mars to Earth. They are building the Mars Science City project to serve as a realistic model for what life would be like on Mars. The idea behind the project is to attract the greatest minds in science and engineering, and some will be able to live for a year in the city. The interconnected domes will be home to several labs for growing food and water, as well as conducting agricultural testing.

The 1.9 million square foot dome will be the largest "space simulation city" ever built.

Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, had this to say about the massive project:

The UAE is a great country with vision and understanding of the challenges we face and the rapid changes our world is experiencing. We believe in the potential of space exploration, and in collaborating with global partners and leaders in order to harness the findings of this research and movement that seeks to meet people’s needs and improve quality of life on earth.

Before people start considering a trip to "Mars," they have some legit concerns:
