It was all fun and giggles when Sean Spicer showed up at the Emmy Awards at the invitation of Stephen Colbert but the blow back was swift and justified. America wasn't ready for Hollywood celebrities to clamor around the former Press Secretary like teenagers at a One Direction concert.
James Cordon, the fun loving English host of The Late Late Show and creator of Carpool Karoke, is feeling the push back after posing for pictures giving Spicer a kiss on the cheek.
I love James Corden but this isn't funny. Joking about it makes it worse. This is reality. EVERYONE needs to stop making it reality TV.— Carol Ann Kalish (@CAKalish) September 19, 2017
Corden kinda/sorta took responsibility for the photo in a monologue for the Late Late Show addressing the audience with this:
“I think people are forgetting that this man lied to the American people and should not be embraced. These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting, I mean who does that?"
The photo of Corden kissing Spicer appeared.
"Anyone ever have that feeling when you get a little drunk and wake up the next morning and think oh god, who did I kiss last night? Understandably, some people have been disappointed by this photo, and in truth, I am disappointed by it as well. I’ve been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter today, and I hear you loud and clear. So much so, I’m really starting to regret that carpool karaoke we’ve taped with Steve Bannon."
Corden went on to name celebrities he has kissed in the past and wrapped it up with:
"Basically what I’m saying is, I need to learn how to shake hands."
Maybe one day when celebrities mess up they can simply say, "I'm sorry."
