Nancy Pelosi Just Said That Trump Promised He Would Sign The DREAM Act If It Reached His Desk
As Nancy Pelosi pushes for The DREAM Act, Trump says he will do something about the dreamers.
The DREAM Act is a bill that gives young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children legal status.
Pelosi claims that Trump has promised to sign the bill on two occasions.
“We made it very clear in the course of the conversation that the priority was to pass the Dream Act,” Pelosi said at a press briefing. “Obviously it has to be bipartisan. The president supports that, he would sign it. But we have to get it passed.”
If this bill is not passed, so called "dreamers" who received two-year work permits and deportation protections will have all of this taken away within six months unless congress takes action.
Trump has promised to act on this bill before it is too late and has Tweeted his support after Pelosi requested a public show of support.
A call to vote on the DREAM Act was issued in September by Democrats of the senate and house, but they are ready to push the bill until it is signed.
House Speaker Paul Ryan must allow the bill to go for a vote. He said Wednesday that he wanted to pair Dreamer legislation with border security.
We will see if Trump stays true to his word.
