Agrabah is getting a blond and blue-eyed visitor. Into The Woods' Billy Magnussen is set to play a brand new character written specifically for the upcoming Guy Ritchie-helmed Aladdin based on the 1992 animated film.
Not much is known about Prince Anders, but it is speculated that Magnussen's character will potentially play a romantic rival for Aladdin.
Mena Massoud will be playing the dashing street rat paramour to Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine. Will Smith will be granting three wishes and serving up endless laughter while The Mummy’s Marwan Kenzari will play the sinister grand vizier, Jafar.
I hope his part is "dumb foreign prince who gets bitten by a tiger".— jojo (@thejoquisition) September 6, 2017
Lol that's nice how white people will make up new jobs just to hire and pay another white person. Maybe one day they do that for poc too.— Sandy SPX C7A (@skimcasual) September 6, 2017
What if the story will be better with this new character? This isn't THE Aladdin movie, its a new version. Its supposed to be different, duh— ☩Kait☩ (@AOkayt) September 6, 2017
Ridiculous claim and unnecessary outcry... Just wait and see the role he plays when the movie comes out— LSUnited (@chitownLSUfan91) September 6, 2017
Aladdin is not middle eastern. It comes.from China. And Indian people are asian. Just saying.— Mrs (@RufiosOnFire) September 6, 2017
It is doubtful that the addition of Prince Anders in the movie will cripple Aladdin 2.0's performance at the box office. At least, that is one of Disney's wishes for their whole new world to take flight.
