There's turbulence on the magic carpet ride over a recent casting choice for the live-action Aladdin remake.

Agrabah is getting a blond and blue-eyed visitor. Into The Woods' Billy Magnussen is set to play a brand new character written specifically for the upcoming Guy Ritchie-helmed Aladdin based on the 1992 animated film.

Not much is known about Prince Anders, but it is speculated that Magnussen's character will potentially play a romantic rival for Aladdin.

Mena Massoud will be playing the dashing street rat paramour to Naomi Scott's Princess Jasmine. Will Smith will be granting three wishes and serving up endless laughter while The Mummy’s Marwan Kenzari will play the sinister grand vizier, Jafar.

News of Magnussen's recent casting choice has been under a hail of criticism for its alleged whitewashing.

Others thought those lamenting over the addition of a white character were being dramatic.

And this user put claims of cultural misrepresentation to rest.

It is doubtful that the addition of Prince Anders in the movie will cripple Aladdin 2.0's performance at the box office. At least, that is one of Disney's wishes for their whole new world to take flight.
