Lorde performed for some lucky fans in a secret iHeartRadio concert in Los Angeles.

During the show, she revealed the inspiration for her new song, Liability.

Before she sings Liability, Lorde talks about its origins:

This is one of the earliest songs that we wrote, and it's one that means a lot to me and I think is going to mean a lot to me for a long time. Some of the songs you write are about emotions that you've been feeling for a long, long time. I had been thinking about the ideas that were expressed in "Royals" for like two years. And it was the most potent hour of last year. I just had to get it down, it was the craziest feeling. And it's not a feeling that visits me often, but I'll never forget it.

Lorde tells fans she was angry and upset, and decided to take a walk. After three or four miles, she called an Uber to take her home.

She recalls sitting in the car on the ride home, crying:

I was crying because I was feeling this very specific feeling of being 'too much' for somebody. It's a very strange feeling when you feel like you're too much. Like you're taking up too much space. And I felt like, it was like no one could ever love me for all that I am because I'm a lot ... I feel everything so deeply, and that's what Melodrama is about; the depth of emotion, especially when you're 19 or 20.

It was during the car ride that Lorde listened to "Higher" and began to feel peaceful, and that feeling of peace helped her write "Liability."

Fans who saw the clip loved both the story and song:
