Nurse Jackie actor Haaz Sleiman talked about his sexuality in a video he posted on social media this week. Sleiman made the video to protest violence against the LGBTQ community.

The Lebanese actor came out, saying:

Not only am I gay, but I'm also a bottom. Not only am I a bottom, but I'm also a total bottom, which means I like it up you know where.

The internet was supportive of his coming out tweet:

The actor had been hinting about the announcement:

Rocking this t-shirt on the streets of Beirut. 😱🌈πŸ’ͺ🏽

On Facebook, Sleiman posted a screen grab of a 2009 interview with the Advocate, in which he said he was straight and had a girlfriend in New York. He talked about his time on Nurse Jackie and how playing his character had brought up questions about his sexuality.

I was so shocked. I froze. My body started shaking. And then I lied and said I was straight. Shame on gay people who are not kind to other gay people.

The advocate wanted to interview me. I told Showtime only on one condition, no personal questions. The advocate agreed....

Even though Sleiman had a hard time opening up, it's encouraging to see him living his life authentically.
