A child asked a question that stumped his father and had many people weighing in, but it was the responses by Luke Skywalker and Captain America that set Twitter abuzz.
The question in question was:
Can a lightsaber cut through Captain America's shield?
Twitter user Hannajoe Settlemyre called out to actors Mark Hamill and Chris Evans:
Hamill and Evans didn't disappoint. First Hamill weighed in:
Evans quickly came back with his own response:
Fans were beside themselves with glee at these two worlds merging on Twitter.
I live for this legendary banter between Luke Skywalker and Captain America— Cil | Bucin mas Connor (@squirrel15_) June 27, 2018
People certainly had some opinions about the lightsaber vs. shield debate.
Lightsabers are ineffective against cortosis, so they are not all-powerful. Vibranium may share that same advantage over a lightsaber; however, "the ability to destroy a [vibranium shield] is insignificant next to the power of the Force."— RhythmicDeviant (@RhythmicDeviant) June 27, 2018
if it can be softened enough to be made into a shield, a saber can cut through it... all though at a longer time than say cutting through regular metal.— Brian Dobbins (@BrianDobbins2) June 27, 2018
No it can’t, because Captain America’s Shield absorbs energy 🧐 Lightsabers are made of energy! ⚡️— Annalpha (@ichianna) June 27, 2018
I think it can cut it. What a lightsaber can't cut through is another lightsaber.— Ethem Pişkin (@ethan_puskin) June 28, 2018

We don't see this debate coming to a close anytime soon.
