Seems with all the carb cutting going on in Americans' diets, our beloved breakfast of pancakes just isn't doing it for people anymore.
So what do you if your entire business model is premised on the notion that everyone loves pancakes? If you're International House of Pancakes, you shake things up in a big way.
Last week, IHOP announced they were rebranding, changing their name to IHOb. What did the b stand for?
Internet sleuths were on the case:
International House of Breakfast!!! The B stands for Breakfast. We just had omelets there.— Patricia Stewart (@wetpaintbrush) June 11, 2018
But what if it's not getting more general, what if it's getting more specific?— David Pratt (@PresidentPratt) June 7, 2018
International House of Blueberry Pancakes, your destination for disappointing people who think they're chocolate chips at first.
Well, after a bit of a wait, today the new IHOb announced what the B actually stand for.
And yeah, no one guessed this one:
Wait, what? Burgers?
The Internet had opinions:
So they just announced what iHob stand for and it’s International House Of Burgers. I’ve been to iHop like a thousand times and I’ve never gotten a burger once... just sayin. 🤷🏽♀️— ave🌼 (@_avery_becca_) June 11, 2018
I thought it would have been international house of breakfast.— Stephanie Dee (@0CAPSQUEEN0) June 11, 2018
International house of burgers is just ... Trolling. Is IHOP trolling everyone ?!? Lol.
this doesnt feel real. tell me its real. i dont wanna believe it.— Lukas the Mute (@TehMainQuarter) June 11, 2018
Bring back the pancakes!
But don't fret, it seems the change is only temporary to announce a new burger line.
Our beloved "P" for pancake will return in good time.
Don’t worry, Pancakers. We still love pancakes. We’re just expanding our burger horizons.— IHOb (@IHOb) June 11, 2018
Here's an idea we could support, because one can never have enough avocado toast.
Why couldn’t you be international house of brunch and start serving mimosas and bellinis— michelle (@mzscudero) June 11, 2018
Even Chili's stepped in to throw some shade at this new campaign.
