Chris Hemsworth stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week to promote his new film Avengers: Infinity War.
In addition to discussing the film, his family life came up, specifically how not speaking Spanish has him at a disadvantage when it comes to family arguments.
You see, his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, is fluent in six languages, Spanish among them, and their three children -- six-year-old India Rose and twin four-year-olds Tristan and Sasha -- have followed in their mother's multi-lingual footsteps.
Chris, however, has not.
Degeneres wondered why Hemsworth hasn't picked up the language:
I would think it would be easy to learn because your wife speaks Spanish, and she would help you.
To which he replied:
Hemsworth explained it made disciplining their children complicated:
“My wife will be telling them off and I’ll be standing there like, ‘That’s right!’ "
Sometimes though, it turns on him:
When I hear the Spanish directed at me, it’s usually unfortunate, controversial, aggressive situations. So I’m just thinking, ‘What is she saying right now?’ and ‘What’s my comeback to this?’ When we’re fighting, basically — which is never! If she gets angry enough she’ll drop the English façade.
You can watch the clip below.
In any language his fans sure love him.
Can't wait to see Infinity War.....in exactly 3 hours and forty minutes and counting!! Love you Chris!!— juliek (@juliekszton) April 26, 2018
Twitter definitely related to Hemsworth's language barrier.
My life but in Cantonese. Even compliments sound like she's pissed off with me. (Though that is most likely to be the case).— Stephen Sharp (@StephenSharp92) April 26, 2018
It's not like he's never tried. Here's Hemsworth in 2017 showing off his Spanish skills.
We're not sure it was much of an approvement since 2015 when he made this attempt.
Maybe Hemsworth hasn't improved because he took this advice to heart.
