We've all had our share of embarrassing moments. Sometimes, however, when you're LGBTQ, those embarrassing moments can lead to some... information... being revealed that we didn't necessarily mean to. Jesse Tyler Ferguson was giving an interview with People and Entertainment Weekly as part of their new "Coming Out Stories" series, and revealed the way he unintentionally came out to his parents.
You can watch the official Entertainment Weekly video...
For the TL;DW crowd, what Ferguson explains is that when he used to shop...
I would occasionally, you know, slip in a gay magazine into a reputable publication and then I would slip it under my shirt and I would exit the store...
He went on to explain that one time, when he was a freshmen in high school, the alarm actually went off at a store in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The police came and arrested him. And then they called his parents.
My mom and dad had to come to the store, and they showed them the nature of the material that I was stealing, and that’s sort of how I came out...
He told us that while his father didn't react well at first, coming from a place of fear, things got better, and his father danced at his wedding to Justin Mikita in 2013.
People praised his honesty:

You are an amazing person. My youngest son is gay (and a ginger, too!) so I often think you should be his big brother!!! I love everything about you!— HER (@librarylady1959) March 7, 2018

Wow. That could have been me but the nice lady at the Lemon Tree convenience store saved me a lot of pain by just kicking me out of the store. Think about that day a lot and it was like 30 years ago. :) That's awesome, I love it.— Paulo Bettencourt (@bostonpapi) March 7, 2018
Mine was after I went in the army. Never knew till then. When I was in I couldn’t be cause I was gay— Tina Harris (@Tina5545Tina) March 8, 2018
